A simple product is a single item without separately priced variations. A book is a typical example. A shirt with different sizes and stock levels usually needs a variable product instead.
Prepare the product information
Have the product name, selling price, photographs, description and delivery details ready. Write a description that answers buying questions: dimensions, materials, compatibility, what is included and any relevant limitations. Avoid copying a supplier’s text without checking it describes the item you actually sell.
Create the product
- Open Products → Add New in WordPress.
- Enter the name and main description, then select Simple product in Product data.
- Set the regular price and, if appropriate, a genuine sale price.
- Configure stock tracking or the stock status. Add a unique SKU if your stock process uses one.
- For physical goods, enter the shipping weight, dimensions and any shipping class your store requires.
- Choose the appropriate product category, add a main image and include useful additional photographs.
- Write a short description summarising the main buying information.
Check before publishing
Preview the product on a phone as well as a desktop. Check the price display, delivery information, image quality and stock settings. Add it to the basket and test the checkout journey using your store’s testing process. Publishing a product does not configure your store’s payments, tax or delivery rules automatically.
